Track Tuesday

Today is a track meet for Mina.  She is doing the 200m, 400m hurtles, and discus.  She is really loving track.  It is a lot of fun to watch her grow, to see her likes and dislikes, and to watch her form her opinions of the world (which she is not shy about sharing with you~I believe blunt has been used more than once to describe her)!  I am also working hard at staying "on track".  I have been struggling to keep up with the demands on my time, and most of the time I would just like to bury my head in a good book instead!  I actually completed my seed bead project at class on Saturday!  If you know me, I have a tendency to chat more than bead at my class, but this week I just got it!  Our project was a beaded bead segment to be used in whatever way you want.  I made one on Saturday, one on Sunday, and two last night!  I am working to get about nine made so I can make a necklace and earrings to sell at summer shows.  I also want to try and make a continuous one to make a bangle bracelet with.  I got up this morning at 6 am and made a bracelet for a gal that Chris rides to work with (a graduation gift).  I made a bunch of fun jewelry last week and have several things I would like to get made this week.  I am taking a class with Sherry Serafini on Saturday in Lincoln (brought to us by the Nebraska Bead Society).  That is a bit overwhelming (check out the link), I have never really done any cabachon work, so I am sure I will learn a lot.

Before and After

These are the Before of the the Living Room.

And these are the after!  It only took 3 months longer than expected.  But it is clean and sort of organized.  I will show you pictures of my "studio" as soon as I get it a bit more straightened up.  The only beads in the living room are that pile in the center of the couch (and a bit on the end tables).  Yay us!

Weekend Notes...

Another busy week flew by, and the weekend wasn't much slower.  I worked at Julie's on Saturday, making jewelry, answering questions, assisting customers, and hanging with the crew.  We were kept hopping with the quilters visiting for the spring Shop Hop, where they go around visiting different quilting shops as groups, and have a limited amount of time to shop at each.  Yesterday found us cleaning, replacing our cracked toilet (which was made in 1955 we found out after we replaced it), doing laundry, mowing and trimming, and having supper with my folks.  I also made some gorgeous prom jewelry.  This week finds us signing Mina up for detasseling (her late summer job), Mina has a track meet, I help at Julie's Thursday (we will be getting set up for the Taste of Home event at the fairgrounds, and getting ready for Open House on Saturday), and Chris will be making beads at Julie's all day Saturday while I attend our monthly seed bead meeting, and then help customers and make jewelry.  I hope to get pics of the prom jewelry and our clean house up soon!

Observations

Found on Facebook (written by Karen Shultz, Chris's classmate): FREE: dermabrasion facials. PLACE: outdoors NE and brought to you by KS dirt, sand and rocks. I so got one of these this week and the sunburn to match at Mina's first Jr. High track meet on Tuesday.
I love to bead!  I made these this week:

I love to bead with unique items.  The pendant on the left was made by Tera of Beadygirl Beads.  I added the large spacer (also made by Tera) to the top of the dangle and a lobster clasp to be able

to change pendants on my sterling silver chain.  The pendant on the right uses Lucite flowers, Swarovski crystals and soldered charms made by Sarah of Brown Dog Studio.  This feeds my current need for bumblebees.  Don't know why I am suddenly drawn to bee "things".

I love SPRING!

I love spring flowers, spring skies, capris, and sandals.  I love the renewal of life and love living where I can see the obvious signs of it.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Sweet Surprises

Over the weekend we headed to the western part of Nebraska to visit Chris's extended family, which we do at Easter and Thanksgiving.  We usually head out on Thursday when Mina gets out of school, and come home after breakfast on Sunday.  Mina hangs out with her cousins, roams the hills, and swings on the tree swing that goes into the tree tops!  Chris takes his fishing pole, hikes with family members (usually ends up as a designated child carrier), and sometimes paddles canoes as needed.  I take beading, beading magazines, and U.F.O.'s (unfinished objects).  When we went to get Mina at school Thursday, Chris went in before school was out to talk to the art teacher, Christine Brown, about coming into school a day this month to show the kids how he makes beads.  I sat in the car for about 20 minutes, and after moving the car further up the carpool lane, went in to see what was taking so long.  We were there about 40 minutes more just talking beads and art with Mrs. Brown!  Fun.  So we headed west about an hour later than normal, but that wasn't a big deal since we had all of our food gathering done for the trip.  On Friday, Chris and I headed from Wellfleet (where his family runs a Native American cultural education center ~ Dancing Leaf Lodge) to North Platte to visit a new bead store that Aunt Janet told us about.  The store just opened last month and it is called Strung Out (catchy huh?!).  What a lovely little bead store!  Great selection for all sorts of beads and beading supplies and the owners were very nice!  So after spending awhile shopping for beads (like an hour and a half!), I paid for my purchases and Chris got paid for the beads that they bought from us!  He sold 5 or 6 beads to the owner and she placed an order for bunnies and birdies that will be sent after we do the Omaha show this Saturday!  If you are in the North Platte, NE area be sure to check out Strung Out, they are a great bead store and they also have a lovely selection of "artist" lampwork beads (including Chris's now!)~my favorite was a cactus pad with a flower blooming on it made by a gal from New Mexico.
